As a keen golfer, Roger Brijlal understands the importance of sport for youngsters and encourages them to participate in various physical activities to develop their skills, build confidence, and cultivate teamwork and discipline.

Hence the birth of the mentorship programme in October 2024 initiated by Roger.

In a heartwarming display of corporate social responsibility, Albatross Care launched a student mentorship program for Oyama , a 13-year-old rugby prodigy from Langa. Oyama’s incredible talent was brought to the attention of Albatross management by his father, a dedicated driver for the company.

Recognizing Oyama’s potential and commitment to the sport, Albatross Care sprang into action, facilitating his acceptance into the prestigious Hamilton Rugby Academy in Cape Town and ensuring he had his boots and training takkies to “kick” start his new playing field with confidence. This renowned academy not only provides top-notch rugby training but also assists talented young players in securing sports scholarships to top rugby high schools in the region.

Thanks to Albatross Care’s support, Oyama is thriving in his new environment. As he enters grade 6, he is set to play for Hamilton’s under-14 team in 2025. This is a remarkable achievement for a young athlete from Langa, and a testament to Oyama’s hard work and dedication.

The mentorship program initiated by Albatross Care serves as a shining example of how corporates can make a positive impact on their communities. By investing in the future of talented young individuals like Oyama, Albatross Care is not only nurturing sporting talent but also empowering young people to reach their full potential.

As Oyama continues to soar to new heights, Albatross Care remains committed to supporting his journey, providing guidance, and helping him overcome any challenges that may arise.

We wish Oyama all the best in his future endeavours and continue to be a support. We look forward to seeing him make waves in the rugby world.
