Albatross Group of Companies hosted a transformative Men’s Mental Health Workshop—Walk a Mile in My Shoes. The workshop was a testament to the company’s values of authentic leadership, vulnerability, and community support, values deeply instilled by Director Paul and founding member and owner, Roger Brijlal.
The event opened with a warm welcome from Paul, whose heartfelt introduction set a tone of empathy and openness for the day. Paul then introduced Roger Brijlal , both gentlemen emphasizing the importance of creating safe spaces for men to talk about mental health, challenging the stigma that often surrounds these conversations.
As the first speaker, Roger Brijlal led by example, sharing his deeply personal experiences with mental health. His story highlighted the power of vulnerability and the importance of seeking help—a message that resonated strongly with everyone present. Roger’s openness, backed by his role as a founding member, demonstrated the kind of authentic leadership that has shaped Albatross’s culture from the very beginning.
Central to the workshop were the moving personal stories shared by Caleb and Tasleem. Caleb, our guest, bravely recounted his battle with addiction, describing the challenges he faced and the resilience it took to overcome them. Tasleem spoke about his struggle with alcohol and the crucial support he received at Albatross, emphasizing the life-changing impact of reaching out for help.
Each story was a reminder that support is always within reach.
Without much prompting, the discussion shifted into a dynamic and heartfelt sharing of experiences. This open forum fostered a sense of solidarity and community, reinforcing the idea that vulnerability can be a source of strength. The event culminated with some brave members of the audience sharing their personal experiences which highlighted the importance of ongoing dialogue and mutual support in addressing men’s mental health challenges within the organisation.
This was indeed powerful and in closing it seems there was a unanimous agreement that there be more of these platforms for open discussions with the Men of Albatross.
Through his leadership, Roger Brijlal with the support of top managements have embedded values of openness, empathy, and long-term community commitment into the very fabric of Albatross, hence the launch of Albatross Care.
This example continues to be an inspiration the staff to also lead with compassion and courage, ensuring that the conversation around men’s mental health grows ever stronger.
The Walk a Mile in My Shoes workshop was more than an event—it was a powerful step toward a future where every man feels seen, heard, and supported.
